After years of waiting, the Shin Megami Tensei V Switch release date window has finally been confirmed during today’s Nintendo Direct Mini. We finally know when we’ll be able to play this new Shin Megami Tensei gameon the Nintendo Switch — and we won’t be waiting too much longer.
JRPG fans have been following the Shin Megami Tensei franchise for some time and a new entry is less than a year away. The Shin Megami Tensei V Switch release date window has been set for sometime in 2021.
Shin Megami Tensei V was first announced in late 2017, the same year that the Nintendo Switch launched. At the time of its announcement, we got to see a short trailer that confirmed the series returning to modern-day Japan. Corpses were strewn about an underground tunnel as demons flew in the air and that was about all we knew… until now.
The newest trailer gives us some tantalizing new narration and shows us a few more scenes from the game, several of which include a character who is likely the protagonist.
“Order itself has crumbled, and chaos shall reign over all,” the trailer’s haunting narration said. “And within the throes of chaos, the world can be reborn, a future yet unknown. In a world without its Creator, which path shall you choose? Follow your will and choose your destiny. The time for Creation has come.”
This new video shows us a continuation of the haunting images of 2017’s trailer after showing the protagonist walking through a crowd of people. The city is, for some reason, completely covered in sand. Demonic entities continue to fly about in the air, and a mysterious figure reaches its hand out to our hero. We then get a title drop and a confirmation of the Shin Megami Tensei V Switch release date window for some time in 2021.
That’s about all we know regarding this upcoming game thus far. Atlus has certainly been pretty light on showing us some substantial details, but it’s sure to be an entertaining experience — especially for longtime fans of the franchise.
