Mafia: Definitive Edition release date delayed a month

There’s good news and bad news for fans of the Mafia games — the Mafia: Definitive Edition release date has been delayed by a month. On the upside, we’ll be getting to see some new Mafia: Definitive Edition gameplay in just a few weeks.

Previously, a remastered set of the three Mafia games was announced. The second and the third games in the franchise have already launched (and the second game turned out to be pretty good), but the first, older game needed more time to bring it up to modern standards. It originally was intended to launch in late August, but the Mafia: Definitive Edition release date has now been pushed back to September 2020.

“[Mafia: Definitive Edition will now release worldwide on September 25,” read a news post on the game’s official website. “Though we’d originally planned to release the game one month earlier on August 28, finalizing everything in time for that launch date has become increasingly challenging due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, and the last thing we want to do is compromise the quality of the experience.”

Although the longer wait might be upsetting, we’re not going to have to wait forever to get a look at all of the shiny new graphics coming in this remastered edition: Hangar 13 and 2K will be showing us some new gameplay in just a few weeks.

“All that said, we know you’re anxious to see more,” the news post announcing the Mafia: Definitive Edition release date delay continued. “That’s why we’re thrilled to give you an extended look at [Mafia: Definitive Edition’s] gameplay in just two weeks on July 22.”

For now, you can check out a 15-second teaser of this upcoming trailer in the tweet below. If you haven’t yet picked up these games, you can grab Mafia 2: Definitive Edition and Mafia 3: Definitive Edition on Steam for $29.99 apiece; otherwise, you can grab the full trilogy for $59.99 or your regional equivalent.
