Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel now in development

After the success of the first film, which was one of the last movies to hit theaters before the pandemic, Paramount has announced that it is making a Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel. No release date was given, but it is now in development.

Paramount confirmed this news to Variety. Jeff Fowler is returning to direct the film and Pat Casey and Josh Miller are also coming back to pen the script. Sega CEO Hajime Satomi, his son Haruki Satomi, and Deadpool director Tim Miller are going to be executive producers. It is still in early development so casting decisions have not been made.

The Sonic movie set records at the box office, even passing up Detective Pikachu, and was relatively well received. Both have been two standout examples of solid adaptations of video game properties. Hopefully, this Sonic movie sequel can continue that trend.
