There’s bad news for the capsuleers of the world: coronavirus fears will see EVE Fanfest 2020 canceled more than a month before it was due to take place.

A recent announcement on the game’s official website has the bad news: the world’s biggest dedicated EVE Online fan gathering is canceled this year. While the coronavirus could potentially be brought under control in a month, the folks at CCP Games just don’t want to take any risks even though fans might be sad to see EVE Fanfest 2020 canceled.

“It is with a heavy heart that we make this decision, and we know this news will be disappointing to our wonderful community, but we feel absolutely compelled to follow the most responsible course of action and prioritize the safety and well-being of our attendees, our staff and of course the general Icelandic public,” the statement read.

This year’s show was slated to be the “biggest and best” yet, featuring parties, a pub crawl, and a charity dinner with the developers. More details about what will happen regarding this event will be revealed in the near future.
