‘No plans’ for a new Nintendo Switch in 2020, Nintendo says

We’ve heard hints and rumors of a new Nintendo Switch coming in 2020 for some time now. Thankfully, it seems that these rumors were not accurate: Nintendo won’t be putting out any new consoles this year.

As Eurogamer reports, Nintendo has recently released a presentation for investors which explains why there won’t be a new console model coming from them this year. In Nintendo’s estimation, the traditional wisdom would say that the Nintendo Switch is halfway through its life cycle. However, they believe that they can get a lot of mileage out of the console, especially with the debut of the Nintendo Switch Lite.

ALSO: The Outer Worlds Nintendo Switch is coming (but it won’t have a cartridge)

Here’s the relevant passage from the investor report, plain as day:

Regarding Nintendo Switch, we believe that it is important to continue to communicate the appeal of both Nintendo Switch systems and expand the installed base. Please note that we have no plans to launch a new Nintendo Switch model during 2020.

And there you have it.

In the meantime, those of you hungry to get something shiny and new from Nintendo can just go buy the special Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch instead.
