Rumor: Super Metroid Remake and Metroid Prime Trilogy HD are coming to Nintendo Switch

Super Metroid remake and Metroid Prime Trilogy HD are reportedly on their way to the Nintendo Switch. New claims have been made by a noted Nintendo insider, who has suggested that two new Metroid games are on their way to the console.

The claims have been made by LeakyPandy, a Twitter user who has previously correctly predicted Nintendo Direct presentations, including Banjo-Kazooie’s unveiling as Super Smash Bros Ultimate DLC during E3 2019.

Now LeakyPandy has claimed in a tweet that two Metroid games will release over “the next two fiscal years,” with Metroid Prime Trilogy HD reportedly releasing on Switch in the fiscal year 2020/21, while Super Metroid Remake will launch in the fiscal year 2021/22. This means that we should have received two brand new Metroid titles by April 2022.

LeakyPandy has claimed that Super Metroid Remake will mimic Metroid: Samus Returns “in style and scope.” The 2017 3DS game was a reimagining of Metroid 2: Return of Samus, so this suggests that the Super Metroid Remake would take similar creative liberties with the original source material.

These rumors line up with Kinda Funny host and former Game Informer Senior Editor Imran Khan’s claim that Metroid Prime Trilogy is set to be announced for the Nintendo Switch in December. This would suggest that it will be unveiled during The Game Awards, which will also take place that month.

Nintendo has already enjoyed great success with remakes, re-releases, and reimaginings of its classic library of games. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening was well-received earlier this year, giving the Game Boy classic a fresh lick of paint, while Pokemon Let’s Go! Pikachu and Let’s Go! Eevee were new takes on the Game Boy’s Pokemon Yellow.

Super Metroid was originally released on the SNES in 1994 and is widely regarded as one of the best games released on the system. Metroid Prime Trilogy was originally released on the Wii back in 2009, with it featuring all three of Retro Studio’s Prime games.
