Cooking Mama: Cookstar has been rated for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch by Germany’s Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (or simply USK), the country’s equivalent of the Entertainment Software Ratings Board. This is the first indication that we’re going to be getting a new game in the Cooking Mama franchise. Additionally, the Australian government has also rated this upcoming game.
Gematsu reports that Cooking Mama: Cookstar has been approved by the USK for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The game has received “0” ratings for both platforms in question as shown on the USK website’s entry for the game, meaning that it has no age restriction whatsoever. The game is classified as an “Arcade (Skill)” game and is being published by Planet Entertainment.

Further investigation reveals that the Australian Classification service (a division of the Australian Government’s Department of Communication and the Arts) has also rated Cooking Mama: Cookstar as a multiplatform title with a “G” (General) classification. Between both entries, we know that the classifications were requested from the United States and that the game is (unsurprisingly) going to be in the English language.
There has not yet been a rating published for the game on the ESRB or PEGI websites at the time of writing.
Cooking Mama: Cookstar may very well mark the return of a franchise that has more or less been dormant since 2014’s Cooking Mama 5: Bon Appétit! for the Nintendo 3DS. A spin-off game titled Cooking Mama Sweet Shop was later released for the 3DS in 2017, but we haven’t had a mainline entry in the franchise for nearly five years.
The release of the game to the Nintendo Switch is understandable considering the franchise’s history with the Nintendo 3DS, but the inclusion of the PS4 may come as a surprise to players considering that the Cooking Mama games have effectively been exclusive to Nintendo devices ever since their inception. There is not yet any word on whether or not this game will be coming to the PC or Xbox One, its release date, or its price, but we’re sure to be hearing more soon — it’s rare for it to take more than a few weeks after a rating for an official announcement about a game to be released.
