Director Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that Square Enix’s upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake will feature the cross-dressing event from the original game. However, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake cross-dressing event will be tweaked to reflect more modern sensibilities.
Talking to Famitsu, director Nomura addressed a number of questions about the upcoming remake. As part of this, they discussed the cross-dressing event that takes place early on in the game.
For those not familiar with it, Final Fantasy 7 features a mission where protagonist Cloud has to cross-dress. Without spoiling too much, Cloud ends up having to dress up as a woman in order to complete a mission in the game.
The original release mostly played the mission up for comedy. However, people today may find it harder to ignore the less-sensitive aspects of this mission.
In light of this, Nomura confirmed that the developers are reworking the segment to reflect modern sensibilities. He mentions that they actually tried to recreate the mission as it was back in the original. However, he states that it felt out-of-place with today’s sensibilities, so they abandoned that route.
Speaking of modern sensibilities, Nomura also talks about Tifa’s slight redesign. He stated the team really wanted to give her abs to make her look even more athletic. As part of this though, they received feedback in regards to her chest looking “unnatural” when she was in action. This led to them giving her the new black sports bra that she now wears under her familiar tank top.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s first installment is set to launch on PlayStation 4 on March 3, 2020. This first release covers most of the early Midgar sections of the original game. However, while it still follows the original game’s story (including the cross-dressing event), Nomura has confirmed that the team has added numerous new events for players to experience. This is part of the reason why the game comes on two Blu-ray discs.
