Nintendo and Game Freak have announced the two main Pokemon Sword and Shield Legendaries today, during the fifteen-minute long Pokemon Nintendo Direct. The two main legendaries are Zacian and Zamazenta. It appears as though both will have a role to play in Pokemon Sword and Shield’s story. Little else was confirmed about the Sword and Shield Legendary Pokemon.
During today’s Pokemon Sword and Shield Nintendo Direct, Nintendo and Game Freak gave us a glimpse at the two main Legendaries that will play some kind of story role in Pokemon Sword and Shield. The two Legendaries are Zacian and Zamazenta. The sword-wielding dog (or wolf) Zacian will grace the cover of Pokemon Sword, whereas the shield-fronted dog (or wolf) Zamazenta adorns the cover of Pokemon Shield. Right now, that’s about all we have to go on.
All we know so far is what the Legendaries look like, which you can see below, what version box they appear on, and that they will both play some role in the game’s story. None of this is anything new to the Pokemon mainline entries, but seeing the new Legendaries is always just as exciting as seeing the new starters. You can see Zacian and Zamazenta below, in all their glory (Zacian on the left, Zamazenta on the right:
The official descriptions for the two Legendaries (thanks to the official Pokemon Sword and Shield website) are as follows:
Zacian: “Zacian attacks so gracefully that its movements can even captivate its opponents. It holds what appears to be a sword in its mouth.” Zacian’s “shining blade can cut through anything.”
Zamazenta: “Zamazenta’s regal and majestic movements overwhelm any opponents that dare face it. Its body is covered in what seems to be a shield.” Zamazenta’s “gleaming shield can turn back any attack.”
We’ll have to wait and see what types Zacian and Zamazenta are. Check out our other Pokemon Sword and Shield coverage for information on its release date, Dynamax feature, Wild Area and Max Raid Battles, and confirmed new Pokemon.
