The latest backer update for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has dropped a surprise in the form of a new playable character. Not only that, this new Bloodstained character is voiced by none other than David Hayter.
David Hayter will be voicing the demon hunting samurai Zangetsu. Fans may remember him as one of the four playable characters in the 8-bit style spin-off Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon.
Zangetsu brings with him his katana “Zangetsuto” as well as some elemental ofuda talismans that he can use against demons. In addition to this, he also brings with him a chain hook that he can use to traverse around the castle.
That Zangetsu is the game’s second playable character shouldn’t come as a surprise. Aside from him being playable in Curse of the Moon, Igarashi’s previous work in the Castlevania series that Bloodstained pays homage to also features additional playable characters.
Of course, David Hayter should be a familiar voice for video game fans. For many years, Hayter played the voice of Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid series. This was his most iconic role, with fans from around the world associating him with the character.
Interestingly enough, the Bloodstained team originally picked Hayter to to the voice of Gebels, the game’s antagonist. However, that role has since been given to Ray Chase, who fans may remember as Noctis from Final Fantasy 15, instead.
In addition to Zangetsu being playable, the team also announced that the following stretch goals will be available at launch.
- Nightmare Mode
- New Game Plus
- 8-bit retro level
- Cheat codes
Also, backers on PlayStation 4 will receive a free “Miriam’s Gaze” PS4 theme.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night arrives on PC on June 18, and on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on June 25. However, 505 Games has delayed the game’s release in Japan due to logistical issues.
