Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Adventure Mode detailed in new PlayStation Blog post

Developer Beenox just dropped some Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Adventure Mode details. The mode returns from the original Crash Team Racing, but with some new twists added just for the remake.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Beenox co-studio head Thomas Wilson spells out how Adventure Mode will both be the same, and different from the originals. As with the original 1999 game, Nitro-Fueled‘s Adventure Mode still has players fighting against the alien Nitros Oxide.

Oxide challenges the player, looking for the best racer in the galaxy. At stake is the Earth itself, which Oxide will turn into a parking lot should they win.

As with the original, Nitro-Fueled‘s Adventure Mode will feature a number of bosses that players must defeat. However, this time, beating the bosses doesn’t just unlock that boss character for them to use. Doing so will also earn players new items such as kart parts, and character skins that they can use in the game’s new customization mode.

To spruce these boss battles up, Beenox has added a number of new intro and victory animations. They also added more detail to the hub worlds to make them feel more alive than they ever did in the original.

In addition to all this, the “Nitro-Fueled” setting now gives players the chance to change their racer at any point during Adventure Mode. This includes karts and customization items, letting players optimize their ride for each stage.

For players who prefer how Adventure Mode played back in CTR however, Nitro-Fueled gives players the option to do so as well. As previously revealed, the game has a “Classic” setting for Adventure mode where players cannot change their character or kart. However, they’ll still earn items, characters, and karts as they would in the regular Nitro-Fueled setting.

Based on the post, the Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Adventure Mode looks to improve greatly on the original’s. Beenox has given players more to do and to earn, while still letting veterans play it like they did back in the day.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled arrives on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on June 21.
