Remastered Crash Team Racing adventure mode has classic and Nitro-Fueled versions

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is gearing up for release on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch on June 21. Developer Beenox is doing more than a simple remaster with this one, adding new content and playable characters to the game. The studio is also doing a lot to honor the legacy of Naughty Dog’s 1999 original.

Beenox creative director Thomas Wilson detailed some of the ways the studio is honoring the original game. The biggest news is about the remastered Crash Team Racing adventure mode campaigns. The first, classic mode, is CTR‘s campaign as it was in the original game, all Crash, all the time. The second, “Nitro-Fueled Mode,” allows players to change and customize characters and vehicles. Alongside the two adventure modes, Beenox will include both the original and remastered soundtracks in CTR Nitro-Fueled.

Wilson and the team at Beenox also consulted with two of the original composers when working on the remastered soundtrack, Mark Mothersbaugh and Josh Mancell. Mothersbaugh is a member of Devo, who worked alongside Mancell on the Naughty Dog Crash Bandicoot games. Beenox went to the two composers to get their input on the remastered soundtrack.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled will also have remastered versions of Crash Nitro Kart tracks alongside the original CTR content. A number of racing karts, battle arenas and modes will also be included from Nitro Kart. On PS4, the remaster will also include classic low-poly skins for characters and karts that were inspired from the blocky models from the PS1 title.

The remastered Crash Team Racing adventure mode options may also highlight new playable characters in the remaster. The game’s villain, Nitrous Oxide will be playable in Nitro-Fueled, who was never truly playable (outside of hacks) in the original despite the rumors. The original CTR featured 14 playable characters unlocked under standard means, with Penta Penguin unlockable with a cheat code.

Beenox and Activision announced Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled at The Game Awards 2018. It will be available for $39.99 on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch on June 21.
