This 2 minute trailer sets up the historical significance of pirates, wenches, cutlasses, and all manner of awesome-pirate-stuff. You and I might not need this historical exposition to enjoy the world created for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, but the series has made its name on the back of real-world events, so why should pirates get it any easier?

We already told you about Blackbeard and the other real-life pirates AC IV introduces to players in our first-look preview, but this neatly animated video contains a few new images and clips, so it's worth watching anyway. Even if you like Ninjas more (so do I!), it'll be interesting to see how the seamless ship traversal and combat sync with typical AC fare like jumping, climbing, and slicing people up with swords.

I still can't help but wonder what next-generation consoles will add to the experience. With ACIV launching on both current-gen and next-gen systems, will PS4 and Next Xbox consumers find a more detailed or populated world? How do the high seas compare across the hardware-gap? Hopefully we'll know more at E3 2013. Stick with GameRevolution for live coverage of that and every new detail released about Black Flag as it nears launch on October 29th.
