BioWare announced the new Star Wars The Old Republic Onslaught expansion this weekend during SWCC 2019. The expansion is bringing new planets, aliens, gear, and more to The Old Republic when it launches in September.
The Star Wars The Old Republic Onslaught expansion will be available to all subscribers when it launches. BioWare Austin said that Onslaught “puts you at the center of the reignited ware between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire.” Players will have the ability to continue working with their faction or undermine the faction’s war efforts.
Two new planets, Onderon and Mek-Sha will be added in the expansion. Onderon was a prominent planet in Knights of the Old Republic 2 and was also seen during the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV show. Mek-Sha is technically not a planet, but a mined-out asteroid. The asteroid is now home to an independent fueling station and is a lawless den of scum and villainy. Players will also visit a new part of Corellia during the expansion’s new Flashpoint which will serve as the expansion’s finale. A new Operation set on Dxun will be available at launch.
Alongside a level cap increase to 75, Onslaught is introducing a new tactical gear slot. These items will directly alter abilities and playstyle. The sole new playable species are the Nautolan, whose most well-known representative is Jedi Master Kit Fisto.
BioWare described its approach to Onslaught as “play your way.” The developer is promoting the ability to customize playstyles, and letting players get powerful items however they play. It could be a boon for players who aren’t interested in certain aspects of the game to stay on par with their friends.
The Old Republic launched in 2011 and has received a number of expansions since its release. Onslaught is the seventh expansion to the free-to-play MMO. A monthly subscription lets players remove credit and experience restrictions, as well as gain access to expansions like Onslaught.
