Does This Mysterious Video Mean The X-Com Shooter Is Reemerging?

2K Games has done the right thing in not talking about the third-person shooter X-Com game in some time. It wasn't very impressive at E3 2011 and diehard fans of the series were vocal in in their rejections. Then came X-Com: Enemy Unknown from long-time Civilization developer Firaxis.

That title has played a major role in reigniting the turn-based strategy game genre and delivered the kind of experience those diehard fans and newcomers alike could enjoy (read our full review here). That doesn't mean gamers everywhere can't get something from 2K Marin despite the evident rollback. The immediate speculation for this video is that it's teasing that game, whatever it might be called.

I'm going to wager that this title is still a shooter, but it will carry the X-Com name and a new subtitle. If 2K markets it right, it could very well capture a segment of the market that's heard of X-Com, but wasn't sure they'd enjoy the gameplay.

Thoughts? I love the way it's playing off of the Russian meteor. And that obviously means they're not trading aliens for ghosts or something. Why wouldn't it have the X-Com name on it?
