Marvel’s Midnight Suns made an appearance at Summer Games Fest and the new trailer revealed Spider-Man as a new playable character, a surprise for Xbox players who have had to make do without any sight or sound from the character in any game for several years. Apparently, this was a move that never got any pushback from Marvel either.

The Darkness Falls trailer revealed the main villain Lilith will have her own army of Fallen heroes and villains, including Venom, Sabretooth, Scarlet Witch, and the Hulk. However, the main draw was the reveal of Spider-Man as a playable hero and he won’t be exclusive to PlayStation consoles. Firaxis’ Creative Director Jake Solomon told VGC that there wasn’t a problem with including him on other consoles like Xbox either:
“He’ll be on Xbox, there’s no problem with that. It’s fun being the first game that’s doing that for a while. Spidey was always a character on the roster and we never got any pushback in any form from Marvel.
I love dark storylines, but you’ve got to add jokes, so Spidey was on the very first list of characters and Marvel was like ‘great’, I never had any inkling that Spidey would be a problem.”
Spider-Man will be voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, who has been responsible for the character several times in recent years including for Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS5 and PS4, and Marvel Future Revolution. Players can take the character for a spin when the game is released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on October 7, 2022. The game will be coming to Nintendo Switch but has been delayed to a later date for unknown reasons.
In other news, the Xbox deals Unlocked sale has started today and features more than 500 games and DLC add-ons with discounts of up to 90%. Elsewhere, Homeworld 3 has been delayed until the first half of 2023.
