Rage 2 NBA Jam announcer voice

Rage 2 NBA Jam announcer feature is real, but only available as a pre-order bonus

Id Software and Avalanche Studios found the perfect day to announce some new pre-order bonuses for Rage 2. The most important one, part of a set of cheat codes, adds the NBA Jam announcer to Rage 2. The Rage 2 NBA Jam announcer will be part of the “Wasteland Wizard Cheat Codes” pre-order bonus.

A new Rage 2 trailer announced the addition of Tim Kitzrow’s voice-over talents to the game. The “He’s on Fire” cheat code is a part of the game’s pre-order incentives and has Kitzrow narrating the game. Kitzrow became well known for his announcing voice in NBA Jam, where he shouted lines like “from downtown,” “rejected,” and “BOOMSHAKALAKA.” In the trailer’s YouTube comments, Bethesda said, “and yes… it’s real. :)”

Kitzrow’s voice-over in Rage 2 includes a host of his classic NBA Jam lines and lines specifically for the first-person shooter. The trailer has a lot of fun with Kitzrow’s performance, with the player character looking around into the sky to find where the voice is coming from. A brief shot also shows off a fake character select screen with stats for various factions. The player character, Walker has a 69 in every stat, including “69’ness.” At one point he just yells “loud noises.”

Although the “He’s on Fire” cheat code is limited to those who pre-order the game. Rage 2 already has a host of pre-order incentives, and a deluxe edition for $80 adds even more. These range from minor additions like a few additional cosmetics and weapons to exclusive missions.

Rage 2 is a joint development between id Software and Avalanche Studios. Id handed much of the game’s development to the Just Cause developers, to the point where it isn’t running on id Tech. Rage 2 was announced in May 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A Switch version is not currently in the cards. The game will release on May 14, 2019.
