Warframe 6 year anniversary celebrations

Warframe 6-year anniversary celebration, nearly 50 million players

Digital Extremes is celebrating the Warframe 6-year anniversary with in-game items and more. The company announced the celebration earlier today, March 25, exactly six years after Warframe released on PC. Warframe has since released on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.

The developer announced the Warframe 6-year anniversary celebrations with a blog post on Monday. Players who log in between March 27 and April 10 will receive new Liset Dex Skin and Excalibur Dex Noggle for free. All previous Dex items can also be earned by completing special Anniversary Alerts. These items are:

  • Dex Furis
  • Dex Nouchali Syandana
  • Dex Dakra
  • Dex Sybaris
  • Excalibur Dex Skin

Real-world Warframe merchandise is also available at a discount through For Fans By Fans through March 31.

Digital Extremes announced that their third-person space ninja game is nearing 50 million players, a major milestone for the title. Players have also defeated nearly 800 billion enemies since the game released.

The free-to-play game began as far back 2000 as a concept called Dark Sector. Over time, Digital Extremes worked on a number of different games with Warframe bubbling in the background. It was announced in June 2012 followed by a closed beta that fall.

Warframe released to moderate reception and low player counts. Over time, Digital Extremes grew the dedicated community through open dialogue and positive game updates. The game was available for PS4 at launch, making it one of a small number of free-to-play games on the system. Xbox One saw a release in September 2014, and a Nintendo Switch version developed by Panic Button released in late 2018.

Several major content expansions altered Warframe extensively. In 2015 Digital Extremes overhauled the game’s movement system and added underwater gameplay. The Plains of Eidolon expansion released in 2017, adding a semi-open world and new side activities. Fortuna, the game’s most recent expansion, released in November 2018.

Digital Extremes has found a winning formula for Warframe, and it looks like the game will be here for many more years. Warframe is available for free on Windows, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
