FIFA 19 Sales

FIFA 19 Sales Debut Fails to Beat Warriors Orochi 4 in Japan

FIFA 19 launched worldwide last week and it has risen to the top spot in the game charts of many countries. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case in Japan. FIFA 19 sales have not been doing well, despite the lack of other AAA game releases last week. It had to settle for third place in the Japanese game sales charts, behind Warriors Orochi 4 and The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV.

According to the most recent Media Create Sales figures, Warriors Orochi 4 managed to sell a total of 127,491 copies across the PS4 and Nintendo Switch platforms, the majority of which was sold on the Sony console. The Koei Tecmo game made waves in its home nation Japan but failed to make splashes in other regions. This is especially so in the UK, where it didn’t even enter the top 40 game sales chart. This is good news for the developer since Dynasty Warriors 9 sales were pretty underwhelming earlier this year.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV debuted at second place with 85,161 units sold, while FIFA 19 only managed to sell a total of 73,972 across the PS4 and Nintendo Switch platforms. FIFA 19 sales have been strong outside of Japan, toppling behemoths Spider-Man PS4 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider in the UK. Meanwhile, Dragon Ball FighterZ for the Nintendo Switch debuts at fifth place with 23,202 units sold.

Other new entries in the Japanese game sales chart include Utawarerumono ZanThe World Ends with You: Final Remix, and Valkyria Chronicles 4. On the other hardware side of things, Nintendo Switch sales were twice as much as PS4 sales, with 42,957 units sold for the former and 15,322 for the latter. The sales for the Xbox One family of consoles remain weak in Japan. The Xbox One and Xbox One X only sold 23 and 52 units, respectively.
