Uncharted Movie Nathan Fillion

Uncharted Movie Is Close to Starting Production

Night In The Museum and Stranger Things director Shawn Levy has been attached to the Uncharted movie ever since he dropped out of making the Minecraft movie, but the film has been stuck in development hell for years with little sign of moving. Now in a new interview, Levy suggested that Uncharted is “closest to the starting line,” has a star and a finished script, and may start production as soon as scheduling and additional casting is complete.

ThePlaylist interviewed Levy regarding the 31 Emmy nominations for Stranger Things, and when asked about his next projects he teased, “as of right now, the closest to the starting line is Uncharted in that it’s a massive title. We now have a very good script and we have our star in Tom Holland… that seems to be the most near horizon.” Last year Deadline reported that Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War star Tom Holland had been signed to play a young Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie, which would serve as a prequel to Naughty Dog’s games — and presumably would be set after the flashback sequences in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

Shawn Levy adds that “it’s a movie I’m very excited about.” It’s the second video game movie he has been attached to after leaving the Minecraft movie, which he joined in 2015 and left in 2016 due to “creative differences.” The current script is by Agents of SHIELD writer Rafe Judkins, who joined the project earlier this year to rewrite the script by The A-Team writer Joe Carnahan, in order to incorporate Tom Holland’s younger Nathan Drake.

Of course, Holland won’t be the first live-action Drake, since just last month Firefly actor Nathan Fillion starred as the wise-cracking thief in a fan-made Uncharted movie, which was released on YouTube for free. You can check out the full movie below. Will Shawn Levy’s official movie be as good? We’ll have to wait and see.
