Rage 2 Developer Opens New Studio in Sweden

Rage 2 developer Avalanche Studios is expanding its rank by opening a new studio in Malmö, Sweden. It will be the third office opened by the studio after the first and second in Stockholm and New York, respectively. The developer started operating back in 2003, with its debut game Just Cause releasing three years later in 2006. Since then, its major releases include sequels in the Just Cause franchise and Mad Max.

Rage 2 Developer Avalanche Studios: Reasons For Opening New Studio

According to the press release, the new Avalanche Studios branch in Malmö will focus on the development of current and future IPs. It also mentions that the new studio will work on relatively small and flexible projects, which are based on AAA production values and proprietary technology. The new location was chosen by Avalanche Studios due to its unique location and burgeoning game development community.

Avalanche Studio CEO Pim Holfve said: It’s been hard to decide where to open our new studio. Sweden offers many locations with potential, but we feel that Malmö ticks all the boxes. I’m convinced that the new studio will be beneficial for both Avalanche Studios and for the already impressive game development community in and around Malmö.”

Additionally, former Media Evolution business developer and project lead Sara Ponnert joins the company as the studio manager for the new studio. Starting from today, Avalanche Studios will begin searching for hires to fill an initial dozen roles and positions at the new studio, with plans for more to follow in the near future.

It’s certainly the right time for the developer to expand as it gears up for the upcoming release of the highly-anticipated Rage 2. Bethesda Softworks released the first trailer for the game last week, followed by a gameplay trailer the following day. Co-developer Id Software also confirmed that the game will not contain loot boxes. Rage 2 will be released for the PS4, Xbox One and PC, with a slated release window of spring 2019.
