The Division Movie Adaptation Will Be Directed by Deadpool 2 Director

A movie adaptation of Tom Clancy’s The Division is in the works. It will be helmed by David Leitch, who is the director of the upcoming Deadpool 2 movie. Stephen Gaghan, who is best known for directing Gold and Syriana, was previously attached to the project before finally leaving.

As reported by Variety, the movie adaptation of The Division will star Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain. It will be produced by David Leitch himself and Kelly McCormick from 8711, alongside Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker from Nine Stories, as well as Chastain and Kelly Carmichael from Freckle Films. Ubisoft Motion Pictures will also be involved in the production.

The movie adaptation of Tom Clancy’s The Division was actually originally announced in 2016 when the game developer and publisher initially revealed both of the starring actors. The press release from back then described the movie as being “filled with countless stories of love, loss, treachery, and heroism.” It was also stated then that movie adaptations of Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Watch Dogs, and Rabbids were all in development.

Let’s hope that the movie adaptation turns out better than the Assassin’s Creed movie released back in 2016. Leitch proved that he could direct a major motion picture with Atomic Blonde last year. The Division might turn out to be a decent video game movie adaptation after all. It is slated to be released sometime in 2019 after Leitch is done directing the Fast and the Furious spin-off starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.

In other related news, Ubisoft recently announced a sequel to the original game titled Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, which will be based on an updated version of the Snowdrop Engine. The first game will also be receiving two more major updates in the future, which will introduce new Global Events and an Xbox One X update.
