Despite having not been seen on consoles since 2013’s BioShock Infinite, there appears to be a brand-new Bioshock game in the works, headed up by a top-secret 2K studio team.
Tucked away in a report by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier detailing troubles at Mafia 3 developer Hangar 13, remnants of the broken-up team have apparently been funnelled into working on a BioShock title, while some have left the company entirely.
Among other details I learned while reporting this story: Right next to Hangar 13, a top-secret 2K studio is now working on a top-secret new BioShock game.

While nothing has been (officially) announced, Schreier has confirmed the presence of a BioShock title on the horizon, backed up by anecdotal evidence of hush-hush talk when the topic of a new title would inevitably crop up among staff.
Code-named ‘Parkside’, the new BioShock title has been under development for at least the past few months. It was apparently so secret that one person close to the studio, according to the Kotaku article, would be met with a response that “[They] can’t really talk about it.”
“They’re trying to be really smart about figuring out what the core thing is. They’re careful about not falling into the same problem every studio has, where they have too many people and nothing for them to do.” explains one person currently working on the new BioShock – at once revealing that they’re still early in development, but that there’s a clear plan in place for a core construct to build the title around.
With Irrational Games now defunct and Ken Levine having moved onto other projects, a brand-new team will be at the helm for the new BioShock title.
Meanwhile, it is believed that what remains of Hangar 13 will be moving onto new things post-Mafia 3. Those who are have been moved to the team next door, though, are lucky enough to be working on a brand-new BioShock, the first title from the franchise in over half-a-decade.
