Overwatch Retribution

Overwatch’s New Comic Retribution Explores the Fine Line Between Right and Wrong

Blizzard has delivered once again with a new comic for their FPS game, Overwatch. In their newest comic, Retribution, readers are able to delve once more into the dark, gritty history of Overwatch’s sister black-op unit, Blackwatch.

Blackwatch (and if we’re honest, most of Overwatch) lore has been surrounded in mystery for a very time long, with it being revealed a few months ago that the newest addition to Talon’s squad, Moira O’Deorain, was involved in the black-op unit as well. In this comic we see her only briefly, but it’s already been enough to have fans speculating online that one of the newest skins in the next update will be Moira in her Blackwatch outfit.

However, the true star of the comic is none other than Gabriel Reyes, aka Reaper. When Overwatch is rocked by an attack by their arch nemesis Talon, it shakes Strike Commander Jack Morrison (Soldier 76) to the core. Reyes, on the other hand, is shaken in a very different way, a way that practically screams that the only answer is to be met with blood, gunfire, and chaos.

The comic is beautifully illustrated as usual and does its best to go into depth on the familial unit Overwatch and Blackwatch was back when they were still seen as an ally of the government. It also goes further into what makes Morrison and Reyes so different from one another, and yet so alike. If you’ve not read the comic yet then please do so here.

Players will no doubt be wondering if this comic will have a direct connection to the newest Uprising event that’s set to come out the 10th of April. The last time we saw the Blackwatch team they were about to head to Venice to fight a Talon leader called Antonio. Could this be a direct reference to the Venice incident where Blackwatch got exposed? We’ll have to find out ourselves during the newest update coming next week.
