Final Fantasy VII Remake Progress Detailed in Job Listing

Square Enix recently posted a job listing looking for new hires for its Final Fantasy VII Remake, which is currently in development. It provides a glimpse into its current stage of development. A translated advertisement posted by Square Enix and states that the company is looking for level planners. Level planners are responsible for the workflow of the location development, as well as the level designs for each location and data implementation using Unreal Engine 4, which powers the Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Several highlights from the job listing state that it is a “major project of fully remaking Final Fantasy VII on PlayStation 4″ and that Square Enix is “recruiting core members for the project!”

The job solicitation described the current stage of development for Final Fantasy VII Remake as: “While Final Fantasy VII Remake’s programs for general functions and contents are being tested within the development team as required, the part about reproducing the original work in high-quality graphics is reaching a satisfactory standard, and we’ve come to the conclusion that in order to meet fan expectations we must increase its quality another step higher. Therefore, in addition to the current members for the Final Fantasy VII Remake development, we must establish a core group that includes level planners, battle planners, designers, engineers, and various types of jobs to tackle on the production of the big title.”

It certainly looks like the game is a long way off yet, considering that the company is still in the midst of hiring “active core members.” It is entirely possible that the Final Fantasy VII Remake is a few years away at best, especially with Final Fantasy XV still being supported until at least 2019 with four more planned DLC Episodes.

Last month, several lucky attendees of The Final Fantasy “Farewell Stories” 30th Anniversary Exhibition reportedly saw a few new screenshots from the Final Fantasy VII Remake. They said that Cloud’s appearance has been redesigned, as well as other unconventional descriptions of the other characters from the game. Read about that here.
