Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg Leaves the Company After 8 Years

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg will be leaving the company in March 2018, wrapping up an eight-year career with the publisher.

Activision Publishing was responsible for the likes of Call of Duty, Destiny and Skylanders, three of the company’s most popular properties, with him reporting to Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick. He has now announced to his team that he is concluding his illustrious tenure with the company, with Activision searching for a new CEO before his departure.

Hirshberg joined Activision in 2010, with him overseeing the launch of Destiny and its sequel, along with huge entries in the Call of Duty series including the blockbuster Black Ops 2. Last year, he helped bring to life the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which went on to become the top-selling remastered game in the PS4’s history.

“During Eric’s tenure we’ve had historic performance and great successes,” said Bobby Kotick in a statement to VentureBeat. “He is an inspiring leader, and we will all miss his creativity and tenacity very much. He is leaving the team, the franchises and the business in a great place, and he goes with my full support and appreciation.”

Hirshberg’s landmark achievements with Activision will be difficult to replicate. It is unknown when Activision expects to announce his replacement.
