Call of Duty Movie: Dwayne Johnson starring?
The rumour is that the new video game movie Dwayne Johnson will be starring in is a Call of Duty film, according to an “inside source” from Giant Freakin Robot. Specifically, the website states that Johnson is “currently in talks with studios” about making a Call of Duty movie, although they couldn’t confirm which studio is in line to make it.
This comes off the back of Johnson’s interview with Men’s Journal, which was mostly about his upcoming DC movie Black Adam but he also confirmed that a movie based on “one of the biggest, most badass games” is in the works, one that Johnson’s “played for years” — a description which certainly fits Call of Duty. Dwayne Johnson isn’t a stranger to gaming either, having starred in movies based on Doom and Rampage, and he’ll soon be available as a playable character in Fortnite.
It certainly comes at an interesting time for Call of Duty, as the franchise and publisher Activision has just been bought by Microsoft and Warzone 2 is probably on the way next year. As for what time period a Call of Duty movie could cover — given that the games have been everywhere from World War Two to the far future — it will most likely be based around the Modern Warfare series, as that’s still the most popular Call of Duty setting.

The Call of Duty movie won’t release until at least 2024 if it goes ahead. As it hasn’t been announced yet it’ll still take at least a couple of years to get developed so 2024 is the most optimistic release, depending on how far ahead it is right now.
