The Star Wars Battlefront 2 heroes been at the center of a ton of controversy over the past few days, with EA initially requiring players to spend a huge amount of time (or fork out for a bunch of supply crates) in order for them to get their hands on Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and co. However, now that EA has issued an update to the game and reduced their unlock cost, it’s not been made clear exactly how long you can expect to spend in the game before you unlock all of the heroes now that the barrier for entry has been lowered.
We’ve been playing through the updated version of the game, and have recorded our findings in regards to how many credits you can expect to earn per hour, how purchasable supply crates impact upon these credits and how long you can realistically expect to play before you’ve unlocked every hero in the game.
Battlefront 2 Hero Unlock Cost
For starters, let’s take a look at the unlock cost for each respective hero. Note that this is the only way each of these heroes can be unlocked — it has been erroneously reported by some outlets that you can purchase these heroes outright using real cash, but they aren’t available to buy outright nor will they appear as unlockables in supply crates. You either fork over the credits for them, or you don’t get to play as them.
- Chewbacca – 10,000 Credits
- Darth Vader – 15,000 Credits
- Emperor Palpatine – 10,000 Credits
- Iden Versio – 5,000 Credits
- Leia Organa – 10,000 Credits
- Luke Skywalker – 15,000 Credits
How Long Does it Take to Unlock Heroes in Battlefront 2?
The real number behind this will be firmly dependent upon your skill level, whether or not you choose to play the game’s campaign and where you opt to spend your credits. If we are working under the assumption that you’re an average player, you’re likely to pick up between 200 – 300 credits per match, so 250 on average. A 10-minute match of Galactic Assault so you’re looking at earning 1,500 credits per hour.

Without taking into account any extra earnings, from playing the game alone that would mean you’d spend just over three hours earning the credits required to unlock Iden Versio, over six and a half hours to unlock Chewbacca, Emperor Palpatine and Leia Organa, and a substantial 10 hours to unlock Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. These calculate would indicate that it’d take around 37 hours to unlock every hero in the updated version of the game without using supply crates, which is a far departure from the previous estimation that it would take 40 hours to unlock a single hero, but it’s still not exactly ideal.
However, this doesn’t take into account the credits you’re given relatively liberally from the outset of the game for completing rudimentary challenges and campaign missions, nor the credits you acquire in supply crates. In the game’s ‘Career’ section, you can claim rewards for objectives you complete while playing, which can be as simple as 1,000 credits for playing a certain number of multiplayer matches or 500 credits for completing the prologue mission. Additionally, you can unlock credits while opening supply crates, which awards you around 300 if they pop up as one of your items, or 400 if one of the items contained inside the crate is a duplicate.
This makes it difficult to put an estimate on just how long it will take to unlock all the heroes in Battlefront 2. While blindly focusing upon unlocking each of them will probably see you able to do so in around 6 – 7 hours, in order to succeed in Battlefront 2‘s multiplayer modes you’re also going to want to spend some of those credits upon purchasing supply crates in order to unlock Star Cards. This means that if you want to have a balanced experience by investing time into upgrading your four classes or even your ships while simultaneously unlocking heroes, you could be looking at 20 or even 30+ hours before you have every hero in the game unlocked.
