The Coalition posted a blog update today on Xbox Wire, announcing the October Halloween update that is coming soon to Gears of War 4. Not only does the update celebrate this spooky season we’re currently in, but marks the end of a year of content added to Gears of War 4.
After its launch just a little over a year ago on October 11th for Xbox One and PC, Gears of War 4 has had steady content updates adding modes, characters, and new maps for the dedicated players to enjoy. This Monday, October 23rd, The Coalition will drop the Halloween update with two new maps.
These two maps will be the final addition to Gears of War 4. They are both returning fan-favorite maps from previous Gears games. The first is the classic Fuel Depot from both Gears of War 1 and 2. The second is a “re-imagining” of Lift Apex from the ground up with a larger, redefined map.

These two maps will go live with the update Monday for season pass owners only. It will become available to everyone else later this month on October 30th. Being the end of the new maps, there will be no more double XP and 20% credit bonus for season pass holders, according to Gears of War 4’s Community Manager Liam Ashley.
Instead, it will be replaced by a “map owned” bonus. The bonus will offer a permanent increase to XP and credits for anyone that plays on a map they own. For season pass holders, this means they will have bonuses on all 34 maps, while everyone else will only have the bonus when they play on the original 10 maps.
Lastly, the Halloween update lays the foundation for Gears of War 4’s Xbox One X support. The complete enhancement update for the new console will arrive alongside its launch next month on November 7th. It will allow Xbox One X owners to experience the game entirely in native 4K as an optional download.
