Circle Pad Pro Confirmed For 3DS XL, No More Hardware Revisions “In The Near Future”

I don't know about you, but I was really hoping/expecting Nintendo to unveil a redesigned 3DS during their press conference at E3. So, as you might expect, I was a bit disappointed/surprised when they didn't announce anything at the show. Then a few weeks after the big expo, they revealed a new super-sized version that only befuddled me further with the noticeable absence of a second circle pad that would have fit beautifully below the face buttons.

But no, it doesn't stop there, as the latest issue of Famitsu (via Andriasang) is indicating that yes, a gargantuan Circle Pad Pro add-on will be made available later this year for those who purchase the 3DS XL. Call me crazy, but wouldn't it have been a better idea to just include the thing on the actual handheld?

At this point, the only way Nintendo could win me over is if it looked something like this:

Those of you holding out any hope whatsoever for a built-in second circle pad should just let it go, as Satoru Iwata told Kotaku in a recent interview that they have no plans for additional versions "in the near future." Iwata also noted that the XL model was made for the sole purpose of satisfying "the need" for a larger screen and the company doesn't want to "perplex" consumers with other versions of the hardware.
