Rumor: Sony To Announce Cloud Gaming Deal At E3

Sony may be planning to cause quite a stir at this year's E3 with a major cloud-centric announcement if a recent report from VG247 proves to be true. According to the rumor, the company will be announcing a cloud-based gaming deal with either OnLive or Gaikai that will enable PlayStation users to play streamed games on their console. The rumor however didn't say whether it would be featured in the PS3, the PS Vita, or both.

Don't forget that Sony did open its arms to Steam just last year, so support for something like OnLive certainly doesn't seem out of the question. Obviously, Sony hasn't said anything on the matter, so we'll have to take this report with a grain of salt.

While the concept is quite impressive, services like OnLive haven't gained enough traction to make streaming a truly viable avenue to satisfy all one's gaming needs. Could integration with the PlayStation platform give cloud-based gaming the surge in popularity it so desperately needs? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
