PS5 Pro: Here are all the rumors about Sony’s PS5 upgrade

Will Sony be releasing a PS5 Pro console in the next few years? There are a lot of rumors and leaks going around now that state that Sony will release a new, enhanced version of the PS5 in the style of the previous generation’s powerful and popular PS4 Pro. However, what could a PS5 Pro release date be? What about the PS5 Pro price, or how about the technical specifications since it would need to be an even better console than even the formidable PS5. Here’s everything known about the PS5 Pro leaks.

What are the PS5 Pro leaks?

PS5 Pro

The new leaks regarding the PS5 Pro primarily come from YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead, which focuses on technology, gaming, and computer hardware news and which posted a video today detailing and collecting everything said about a possible PS5 upgrade. It’ll be Sony’s major push towards 8K gaming, and Microsoft is reportedly going to offer something similar with a new version of the Xbox Series X or S.

What is the PS5 Pro release date?

The leaks suggest that the PS5 Pro will release at the earliest by late 2023, or more likely 2024.

The PlayStation 4 Pro released in November 2016, exactly three years after the release of the PS4 in November 2013, and November 2023 would mark a similar three-year gap between the PS5’s release date in November 2020 and the PS5 Pro.

What is the PS5 Pro price?

The rumored price for the PS5 Pro is around $600 to $700 USD, which is pushing twice the price of the regular PS5 at $399.99.

The PS4 Pro was $399.99 when that launched, just $100 more than the base PS4 at $299.99, so the reason for the price difference is likely because production costs have skyrocketed since then — as seen in the shortages of the current PS5.

What are the PS5 Pro specs and hardware?

The PS5 Pro is rumored to feature a fresh new AMD APU with new CPU/GPU IPs, which of course will be far faster than the current AMD Zen 2-based CPU that runs at 3.5GHz.

“APU” means ‘accelerated processing unit’ and is still a CPU, although AMD has combined it with a powerful integrated graphics card so it does all the work. The system should be able to natively support 8K resolution, but all this is just speculation so take everything here as rumor, although Moore’s Law Is Dead states this is definitely the case. Don’t expect Sony to announce the PS5 Pro until 2023 either, incidentally.

Elsewhere in PS5 news, all first-party PlayStation Studios games after Horizon: Forbidden West will no longer offer a free PS4 upgrade route. Once the PS5 Pro does start rolling in, users will need to start paying attention to the best PS5 model numbers to get.
