O’Connor: Halo’s “Reclaimer Trilogy” To Span The Next 10 Years

At Microsoft's E3 press conference last year, 343 Industries announced that Halo 4 would mark the start of a brand new trilogy for the franchise. This upcoming trio of titles has been aptly labeled "The Reclaimer Trilogy" and according to 343's Frank O'Connor, this little bundle of joy will span the next ten years.

Speaking to Game Informer, O'Connor explained that while they have a plan mapped out for the next decade, a number of story details have been left open to provide some wiggle room for John 117. “We have things mapped out pretty far, probably about ten years, but they’re pretty vague, they’re big plot points. We think that X will happen, we think Y will happen, we think they should go visit Z," he said. "There’s a danger that you’ll get granular in your planning because if this was a novel, you could just write an end. But it’s not a novel."

O'Connor went on to discuss how the ever evolving nature of video games makes it difficult to plan for the future. As such, the studio has to be willing to adapt and change as the industry does. “New technology appears and give you new opportunities, pieces of the sandbox end up being less or more popular than you might have expected. And so the constant shift in reality, never mind the technology of the gameplay content, should be the thing that defines your gameplay universe,” O'Connor explained.

So what do you think about another decade filled with Halo? Does it make you squeal with delight – like me – or have you cringing with despair? Sound off in the comments below.
