Square Enix Reveals Nier: Automata Colosseum DLC, Japanese Release Date

During its "One Million Shipments Commemoration" livestream earlier today, Square Enix revealed upcoming DLC plans for its acclaimed release Nier: Automata, developed by PlatinumGames. The DLC is slated for a May 2nd release in Japan, and will be priced at 1,500 yen (approximately $14).

As determined by Gematsu, the upcoming DLC includes a new Colosseum game area, as well as three not-before-seen costumes. The Colosseum becomes available once in-game conditions are met, and offers fun rewards in exchange for clearing battles and additional scenarios. There's also a heightened difficulty available for players seeking added challenge, and Colosseum rewards will range from additional costumes to hair color changes and other cosmetics.

As for the DLC costumes, they are as follows (and, I can only assume, directly translated).

  • High-Exposure Girl's Clothes (in the style of Kaine)
  • Simple Boy's Clothes (in the style of young Nier)
  • Word Destroyer Man's Clothes (in the style of young adult Nier)

Square and Platinum are clearly enjoying themselves developing the DLC, as both Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsudea and PlatinumGames CEO Kenichi Sato will appear as Colosseum enemies to be defeated. Supposedly defeating them will award quite significant items, so keep an eye out.

There's no release date for the West announced just yet, but there's little reason to believe it won't happen. We'll keep you posted on any new Nier: Automata developments. In the meantime, check out our review, as well as our comparison to Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Horizon Zero Dawn.
