Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida: VR Technology Is Like an “Ultimate Weapon”

It appears that VR technology is the next big thing in the video game industry. That doesn't guarantee success, but Sony is confident in the technology. Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony's Worldwide Studios, certainly believes in PlayStation VR.

In a recent interview at the Tokyo Game Show, one in which GameRevolution's very own Heath Hindman participated, Yoshida discussed the topic of virtual reality in video games.

“Using VR tech, it’s so easy, it’s almost unfair," he said. "It’s like an ultimate weapon. I think it’s going to be a hugely powerful weapon for game developers to create new and exciting experiences for consumers."

Yoshida went on to talk about how he's encouraging developers to work with the technology now so that Sony can have games lined up for the launch of PlayStation VR in 2016. Apparently it's worked out well, as Yoshida is "very optimistic of the variety of games and experiences that will be available at launch."

This optimism comes in the wake of recent comments by Sony Computer Entertainment President and CEO Andrew House, in which he said the PlayStation VR will be priced like a new gaming platform. The thought of paying $400 for a VR headset on the PlayStation 4 may turn potential customers away. Let's not forget that the importance of price can trump technology.
