PS5 Update breaks online

Sony Investigating New PS5 Update That Breaks Online, PS Plus

Sony PlayStation Japan has confirmed that the latest PS5 update has broken the PlayStation Network service. The PS5 update was rolled out early this morning, but multiple users have reported that everything from the PlayStation Store to online multiplayer has been interrupted. In fact, it is impacting owners for both PS5 and PS4 consoles.

Sony is fixing the PS5 update as quickly as it can

Sony, through its official Twitter account Ask PlayStation JP, says that it is investigating the issue (message translated into English):

“[Information on PSN ™ failure occurrence] PSN ™ (including PlayStation ® Store) may not be available at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers. We are conducting an investigation and restoration work, so please wait for a while.”

In addition, at the time of this writing, the status page for the PlayStation Network has verified issues in multiple areas. For PlayStation Now, the PlayStation Store, and gaming and social areas of the platform, functionality has been interrupted. It also confirms that the issue is affecting areas on the web and other areas beyond the PS5 and PS4.

The intention of the latest PS5 update was to reconfigure the party chat system along with other online functionalities, but now players attempting to play games like Elden Ring are forced to play offline. For always-online titles like Gran Turismo 7, the situation is worse.

According to a post on the PS5’s official Reddit, many with PlayStation Plus subscriptions have stated that it no longer works properly and some no longer have access to the games offered on the service. It is yet unclear how those who renewed or purchased a PS Plus subscription within the last day or so will be affected and if their subscriptions have gone through successfully.

In other news, From Software has pushed a 1.03.2 update for Elden Ring that has fixed a game-breaking griefing bug, and Gran Turismo 7 fans are resisting the game’s microtransactions and tough grind by using a credit-farming script.
