Rumor: Universal Building a Video Game Theme Park With World of Warcraft, Mario Kart and Zelda Rides

If there were a video game theme park, would you visit? It might sound outside the realm of possibility, but according to a new report Universal is looking to make the first move to make such a dream a reality.

According to This Is Infamous, Universal Orlando has secured deals and is planning to build a theme park dedicated to the world of video games. This would be its third theme park in Orlando, Florida alongside Universal Studios Orlando and Islands of Adventure.

Reportedly, there are two deals that have been made, one with Nintendo and the other with Activision Blizzard. For Nintendo there will be Mario Kart, Pokemon, and The Legend of Zelda rides that fit thematically with these IPs similar to film-based rides at Universal Studios. Meanwhile, Activision Blizzard wants a World of Warcraft ride in the park.

The video game industry has grown to become one that drives over $20 billion in revenue in the U.S. alone each year, and over $76 billion worldwide. It has become the fastest growing sector of the entertainment industry, eclipsing film in the process. Meanwhile, there are no video game focused theme parks to be found anywhere in North America. It's only a matter of time when something of this nature is created, and hopefully sooner rather than later.

With an endless pool of possibilities—how about an F-Zero rollercoaster?—, there's tremendous potential for the park.
