Sony to Focus on Heavily on PlayStation, Possibly Depart TV and Smartphone Business

The PlayStation brand is going to be of the utmost importance to Sony as the company moves forward, CEO Kaz Hirai announced.

The television and smartphone divisions of the company aren't doing particularly well, as Sony continues to struggle to compete with the likes of Samsung and Apple. As such, Hirai has revealed that he won't rule out doing away with those divisions entirely. We saw the company do this in the PC space with its VAIO line of computers.

Hirai went on to explain that going forward, the company plans to rely on entertainment, camera sensors, and PlayStation as the primary profit drivers. As such, Sony will be looking to expand the reach of PlayStation Network in the months and years to come. With the continued success of PS4, this should hardly come as a surprise.
