Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Iris of Occultation Iris of Grace

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree: Where to Use Iris of Occultation and Iris of Grace

Two of the more obscure items you’ll find in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree are the Iris of Occultation and Iris of Grace. These two objects are obviously related, but what to do with them is not immediately apparent. Their descriptions say you can use them to get the blessing of a Great Rune, but it’s obvious that this isn’t their intended purpose. Fortunately, we can show you exactly where to use the Irises of Grace and Occultation so you don’t accidentally waste them.

Where to find the Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Iris of Grace

You can find the Irises in the following locations in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC:

  • Iris of Grace: Take the elevator down from Shadow Keep, Specimen Storehouse and proceed through the area containing the living jars. You’ll find it in front of a statue of Marika.
  • Iris of Occultation #1: After draining the water in Shadow Keep, Church District, fight the Lesser Ulcerated Spirit, which appears on the ground level.
  • Iris of Occulatation #2: Look for the Lesser Omenkiller in the Fort of Reprimand. Kill it, and it’ll drop the Iris.

Where to use the Iris of Grace and Occultation in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

The Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation are tied to two NPCs in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. You can use them on either Fire Knight Queelign or Swordhand of Night Jolan. At some point, both of these NPCs will find themselves on the brink of death and questioning their beliefs.

Using one of the Irises, you can give Queelign or Jolan one last moment of peace or deny them the light they seek. Depending on your choice, you’ll either get their signature weapon or their spirit ash.

The catch here is that there’s only one Iris of Grace in the game and two Irises of Occultation. So, you can either bless one and damn the other or damn them both.

Fire Knight Queelign

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Fire Knight Queelign

Just finding Queelign to use an Iris on him is a chore. He’ll invade your game as a Recusant NPC in two locations:

  • Belurat: The area with the fountain past the Small Private Altar Site of Grace.
  • Scadu Atlus: Church of the Crusade

When you beat him at the Church of the Crusade, he’ll drop the Prayer Room Key, which is crucial to finding him later.

You’ll need to make your way to the Shadow Keep Church District, which is found by taking the hidden path in Moorth Ruins. Once there, you’ll need to cross the rooftops to the main structure and look for a door which can be accessed with the Prayer Room Key.

Inside the Prayer Room, you’ll find Queelign begging Marika to favor him with grace. After listening to him, you’ll get two choices:

  • Give Iris of Grace: Recieve Fire Knight Queelign Spirit Ash
  • Give Iris of Occultation: Receive Queelign’s Greatsword

Swordhand of Night Jolan

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Swordhand of Knight Jolan

You’ll meet Jolan as part of Count Ymir’s questline. To get the ball rolling, head to the Cathedral of Manus Metry by going through the hidden passage in the Moorth Ruins. You’ll then need to complete the entirety of Ymir’s questline, and at the end of it, Jolan will attack you. After you defeat her, reload the area, and you’ll find her slumped against a pillar. Speak with her, and you’ll get two choices:

  • Give Iris of Grace: Receive Swordhand of Night Jolan Spirit Ash
  • Give Iris of Occultation: Receive Sword of Night

Can I save Queelign or Jolan?

Unfortunately, there’s no way to save Queelign or Jolan. When you get the decision to give them an Iris you have already mortally wounded them. The two are destined to die with or without your interference, but at least you can provide them with some closure if you so choose.
