You’ll likely wonder where to go next after passing through Castle Ensis in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. You’ll find yourself in another huge hub area called Scadu Atlus, which lies south of Shadow Keep. Even this far in, your ultimate objective in the Land of Shadow will be somewhat opaque (unless you’ve gone off the beaten path), which will have you questioning the best route to take to your next objective. Fortunately, you have a few choices here, which we’ll explain below.
Where do I go after Castle Ensis in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
After passing through Castle Ensis in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree (or reaching Scadu Atlus through alternate means), you’ll need to head to Shadow Keep to complete your next objective, which is to defeat Messmer.
From the Highroad Cross Site of Grace, you have two routes you can take to find Messmer:
- Head north into the Shadow Keep Main Gate
- Head east and take the long way to the Shadow Keep Church District
Head north into Shadow Keep Main Gate
You’ll find this route is self-explanatory. From the Highroad Cross Site of Grace, you can head straight north, and you’ll run right into Shadow Keep. From there you’ll need to go toward the north end of the keep to Specimen Storehouse.
Head east to the Shadow Keep Church District
If you head east from the Highroad Cross Site of Grace you’ll find the Moorth Ruins Site of Grace. From here, go southeast into the ruins until you find a passage leading into the ground. Proceed through the passage and you’ll find yourself at Bonny Village.
From Bonny Village, go east across the two bridges and then follow the path north. If you keep following the path, you’ll eventually read the Church District Highroad Site of Grace. Continue following the road north, and you’ll reach the Church District.
You’ll need to cross the rooftops in the Church District and drain the water. Once it’s gone, you can find a lift that takes you to Specimen Storehouse.
Where to go in the Shadow Keep, Specimen Storehouse to find Messmer
Regardless of which route you take, you’ll end up in Shadow Keep, Specimen Storehouse. This area is a vertical labyrinth that has five different exits. Only one leads to the Dark Chamber, where Messmer awaits.
To find Messmer, you’ll need to reach the topmost section of Specimen Storehouse. There, you’ll find a door that leads outside to a bridge that crosses over to the Dark Keep.
