Resident Evil 5 Remake: Is Capcom Making an RE5 Remake?

A Resident Evil 5 remake would make sense for Capcom. The publisher has already remade the first four numbered Resident Evil titles, so it’s only natural that the fifth one would follow. So is Capcom developing an RE5 remake?

Is there an RE5 remake?

Capcom has not officially announced a Resident Evil 5 remake. The publisher has also not officially hinted that such a project is in development.

The aforementioned precedent of remaking numbered installments is convincing, though, as are some of the latter portions of the Resident Evil 4 remake and the Separate Ways DLC. The ending of the base remake has Ada disobeying Wesker and flying off into the sunset.

That part is in Separate Ways, too, but with an added addendum. The added scene shows Wesker being disappointed but ultimately unphased by Ada’s betrayal. The camera then reveals that Wesker has Krauser’s corpse. Wesker wants the Dominant Plaga strain, but it remains to be seen what will happen after.

However, the more helpful clue is on Wesker’s screen. It appears to roughly show the continent of Africa, which is where the original Resident Evil 5 takes place. Wesker is also the main antagonist in RE5, and the Resident Evil 4 remake clearly hints that he will have a big role in the future. It’s also likely that what he gets from Krauser’s corpse will play into Resident Evil 5’s events.

Users have also datamined unused models of Wesker, which some seem to think is a reference to Code Veronica. His arm is severely brutalized, and these injuries reflect when Alexia set him on fire. However, that would have happened years prior to Resident Evil 4. Regardless, Capcom told Noisy Pixel in October 2022 that it had no plans of remaking Code Veronica, but said it might go through if the opportunity arises. Given these changes and hints, Capcom has a few different routes to go down with its successful series of remakes, but a remake of Resident Evil 5 seems the most likely.
