There will almost definitely be a Resident Evil 5 remake. The original was the best-selling game in the series, which means it’s likely a priority for Capcom. Furthermore, we got at least one hint in Resident Evil 4 remake that an RE5 remake is coming.
Will Capcom remake Resident Evil 5?
There will almost certainly be a Resident Evil 5 remake. There’s been no official confirmation, but the original was the most successful game in the franchise. Also, Capcom has been trying to score a multiplayer hit with Resident Evil, and unlike Resistance and REverse, people would actually play an RE5 remake.
At the conclusion of the RE4 remake, we also got confirmation that Wesker is around and kicking. He hadn’t been seen in the remake series up to this point, and since he’s the main villain of RE5, his absence would have required some major rewrites. Also, despite some minor differences, the remake series is heading the same way as the prime timeline.
The big question is whether a Resident Evil 5 remake will be as faithful as RE2 and RE4 remakes. Even back in the halcyon days of 2009, when gaming was naive about all the social ills that are constantly the topic of conversation now, the original game was accused of racism because its initial trailer showed black enemies being killed by a white protagonist. Of course, most people who played the full game agreed this was absolutely silly. However, these are strange times, and Capcom might want to distance itself from any accusations, no matter how disingenuous they are.
