Starfield Digipick Explained Lockpicking Tutorial Guide

Starfield Digipick Explained: How to Buy and Use Digipicks Tutorial Guide

Using the Starfield digipick can be rather confusing at first, so this tutorial guide will explain how to use them and where to buy them. As opposed to Bethesda’s other open-world games, lockpicking and hacking computers requires you to use a digipick. You start off being able to crack Novice-level lockpicks, with the Security skill being responsible for giving you access to Advanced, Expert, and Master locks. The skill will also make lockpicking easier, which is why we gave Security an S rank in our tier list. When you interact with a computer, locker, or chest that needs a digipick, it prompts a lockpicking mini-game that can be tough to solve. Here’s how to use the digipick and beat the lockpicking mini-game in Starfield.

How to use Starfield digipick and solve lockpicking mini-game

The following is a step-by-step tutorial guide on how to digipick and solve the lockpicking mini-game puzzle with ease:

  • Note the number of rings – Novice-level locks have two rings, Advanced and Expert tend to have 3, while Master locks have 4. The number of keys you have will also increase with the difficulty level of the lock, making it harder to figure out which ones are needed for the puzzle.
  • Each ring usually requires two keys – It’s very rare that you’ll find a ring that can be solved with one key. And using three keys usually means you did something wrong. We suggest that you rotate one key and see if it fits. Then before you locked that key into place, look at the remaining holes and see if there’s another key that will complete the ring.
  • Rings will highlight blue as a hint – As you put more ranks into Security, rings will highlight blue when you select a key that fits. If there is a key that makes one ring highlight blue while all the other rings remain white, that’s a hint that you should use that key only for that blue ring.

Every lock you pick successfully will increase the number of auto-attempts you have. Using an auto-attempt will make one of the correct keys to rotate into place for the current ring.

Where to find and buy Starfield digipick

You will find most digipicks just laying around in many rooms and you can buy them from most general goods shops.

By using the scanner, it will highlight the cylindrical outline of the digipick for you to spot. You’ll find a lot of digipicks in lockers or somewhere around safes. The game tends to be generous by placing a digipick or two in places where you might need one.

Otherwise, you can purchase them from either general stores or electronic shops. In particular, Apex Electronics in The Well of New Atlantis is a good place to buy about 8-10 digipicks at a time. Most general stores will only have about 2 or 3 digipicks for sale, if any.
