Starfield Will Be Getting Updates Every 6 Weeks, Bethesda Says

While it’s not going down so well with the community, it’s still pretty early days for Starfield. Bethesda’s latest IP is up for a Steam award, at least, and as we move into 2024, the studio has given hints as to what’s coming to the game.

Next major Starfield update coming February

In a recent post on Reddit, a spokesperson for the developer has given an update on what fans can expect from Starfield in 2024. For starters, Bethesda is planning to send out patches – including quality-of-life changes and bug fixes – every six weeks, with the first major update expected in February.

As for what’s actually being focussed on, the post goes on to list a number of changes and implementations. The full list is as follows:

  • City maps
  • New ways to travel
  • New ways to customize your ships
  • New gameplay options to further adjust difficulty
  • Official mod support with the launch of Creations
  • Our first story expansion, Shattered Space

That last one is particularly interesting, especially for those who’ve long since completed the main quest as well as a bunch of side missions. As for “new ways to travel,” this is something that’s already been mentioned in the past. More details about the future can be found on the official Starfield website.

It’s been an odd few months for the space-faring RPG. It went from being one of the most talked about games of this generation to something that dropped off more than a few radars in quick succession.

While Starfield is still sitting with a review score of “Mixed” on Steam, there’s hope that going forward the studio can reinvigorate what Todd Howard had evidently hoped would be his magnum opus.
