Starfield: a spaceship flying behind an astronaut's shoulder.

Starfield Is Now at ‘Mostly Negative’ on Steam

By this point, it’s safe to assume that a lot of people are now bored with Starfield. Despite the developer hoping to rekindle fan interest by announcing upcoming patches and new features that will be released regularly, recent review scores suggest the game will struggle to recover.

Not the legacy Bethesda hoped for

A quick look on Steam (as spotted by PCGamesN) reveals that Starfield – despite all the hype – is now down as “mostly negative” on the platform. It seemed to have settled on “mixed” for a while, but now Todd Howard’s pet project has managed to sink lower.

Indeed, the most recent user reviews show that a lot of people do not recommend the game. One person referred to Starfield as being “so far below expectations,” while another called it “disappointing,” though conceded that the “ship builder is really good.”

In short, the news is not looking good for what many thought would have been a groundbreaking release, especially seeing as it was Bethesda’s biggest launch ever.

At the time of writing, Starfield has just shy of 12,000 players, according to SteamDB. Now, this could be because it’s the holidays, but given that Baldur’s Gate 3 has around 169,000 people playing currently, it could say a lot about how people feel about the former.

Both Bethesda and parent company Microsoft had high hopes for it, and while it did take off tremendously when it launched in September, it quickly crashed and burned upon re-entry. Check out our review of Starfield, where we praised the visuals but were sadly left wanting more.
