How to beat the Elder Mist boss fight in Sea of Stars
To beat the Elder Mist boss in Sea of Stars, it is imperative that you rest beforehand. This will heal you and get you all ready for the fight at hand. There is a campfire (and a save book) right outside the fight, which will prompt you before you enter.
Elder Mist has a few different moves. His main attack is an overhead punch that can easily be blocked if you time the button press correctly (X on PlayStation, A on Xbox and Switch). His second one is a bit more unique. His sword will counter attack you sometimes when you strike it, which results in all three party members getting attacked at the same time. Despite this, attack the sword first since taking it out limits Elder Mist’s attacks. It’ll will be resurrected every few turns, but it’s still worth eliminating as soon as possible.
His final attack is a charged attack. It’ll have three symbols above it that you have to match. Valere’s and Garl’s melee attacks do hammer damage, while Zale’s melee attack does sword damage. Valere’s magical attacks do moon damage and Zale’s do sun damage. Make sure to match the symbols with the appropriate moves before the clock runs out. Doing so successfully will stop him from doing his most devastating attack.
Be sure to hit the confirm button at the correct time to double up on attacks and knock out more than one symbol. Valere’s Moonerang skill is great for knocking out more than one moon, too.
The general strategy is to use Garl’s Nourish skill to recover health and suck of the orbs that come out of the boss when you attack it using the “Boost” button prompt when selecting a character. As the section before this shows, this will empower your next attack. Combo attacks, which are shown by the bar on the left side of screen, can also help you in a pinch by restoring your health and doing extra damage.
As long as you heal at opportune times, suck up the orbs before attacking, knock out his sword whenever it comes back, match the symbols for his charged attack, and use your combo attacks when you’re being pressured, he’ll go down in less than 10 minutes.
