Sea of Stars Saving: Does it Have Auto-Saving?

Sea of Stars Saving: Does it Have Auto-Saving?

The Sea of Stars saving system isn’t like most other games it is trying to emulate. After all, a lot of the retro RPGs from the 1990s weren’t known for their friendly save systems. Regardless, here’s whether or not Sea of Stars has autosaving and how the save system works.

Does Sea of Stars have auto-saving?

Sea of Stars does have auto-saving. It is symbolized by the book in the lower right side of the screen. The book will float up and down and then say “saving” when it is indeed saving. This is not to be confused with the loading symbol, which shows silhouettes of your party, as shown in the second picture in the above slideshow.

However, it is strongly advised to not depend on the auto-saving. These auto-saves points are few and far between and not always consistent. Around 10 to 15 minutes of straight gameplay or cutscenes can go by without triggering a single auto-save point. The relatively small size of the icon also makes it easy to miss when they do happen. Using the system’s rest mode is a decent way to get around this, which might be slightly easier for Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck users. Because of this, auto-saves should mostly be used as a backup.

Sea of Stars Saving: Does it Have Auto-Saving?

It is highly recommended to mainly use the hard save points. As shown in the above picture, these small books with an arrow over them are littered throughout the map and let players save their progress. Campfires also have save points.

There are nine slots and each comes with an auto-save slot. The game will even warn players if the auto-save is newer, which is useful for those times when you forget to make a manual save. You can see these auto-saves when booting into a save from the main menu. There will be time stamps for everything, so they should be somewhat easy to recognize what each file is.
