Are there drivable vehicles in Starfield

Starfield Drivable Vehicles: Are There Rovers, Power Armor, Hoverbikes, or Mechs?

With the expansive landscapes in Starfield, you’d assume you can get a drivable vehicle. Traveling on foot can get tedious when you’re trying to explore, so it would make sense if you could get a rover, power armor, mech, or a hoverbike. How large each planet is, it can take a while to walk or even jetpack to each point of interest, so is there an alternative?

Are there vehicles like rovers, hoverbikes, power armor, or mechs in Starfield?

Unfortunately, there are no vehicles in Starfield. There are no rovers, hoverbikes, power armor, or mechs you can use. There’s no in-universe explanation given for why you can’t use rovers or hoverbikes, and it seems like cities and settlements just aren’t built with them in mind.

However, there is a reason given for the lack of power armor and mechs. In the Colony War, which ended around 20 years before the game, both the United Colonies and the FreeStar Collective used mechs against each other. One of the stipulations of the treaty that ended the war is that mechs were banned. So, you’ll hear about mechs and see one in a museum, but all of them have been deactivated.

More Starfield

The only forms of travel you have besides your ship are your feet and your jetpack. This is one of the game’s downsides since exploring a planet’s surface takes so long. You have to walk to discover more points of interest, and they’re often a kilometer or more apart. So, you’re stuck hoofing it. Additionally, your ship will often land a ways away from a POI if you fast-travel to it, so you can’t even use that method to shorten the time it takes to get there.

Hopefully, we’ll see vehicles like a rover or hoverbike added to Starfield with mods or a future DLC. At launch, however, your transportation options are limited.

Starfield Vehicles FAQ

Q: Can I drive vehicles like rovers or hoverbikes in Starfield?

A: Unfortunately, there are no drivable vehicles like rovers, hoverbikes, power armor, or mechs in Starfield. Your primary modes of transportation are your ship, your feet, and your jetpack.

Q: Why aren’t power armor and mechs available in the game?

A: Power armor and mechs were used in the Colony War, which took place around 20 years before the events of Starfield. After the war ended, one of the conditions of the treaty was the banning of mechs. As a result, you might come across a mech in a museum, but all have been deactivated.

Q: How can I explore planets more efficiently in Starfield?

A: Your options are limited to walking and using your jetpack. It can take time to explore a planet’s surface due to the vast distances between points of interest. If you fast-travel, your ship might land some distance away from your destination, so be prepared for some foot travel. It’s hoped that future updates, mods, or DLCs might introduce additional transportation options.
