Pikmin 4 Blue Onion Stuck in Water

Pikmin 4 Blue Onion Stuck in Water: How to Get it Out

In Pikmin 4, getting the Blue Onion stuck in the water in Sun-Speckled Terrace is possible. It can seem like you’ve softlocked since you need Blue Pikmin to pick up objects in the water, and you need the Blue Onion to spawn them. Fortunately, there are a couple of ways out of this predicament.

What to do if the Blue Onion gets stuck in the water in Pikmin 4

If you accidentally unfreeze the pond early, you can get the Blue Onion stuck in Sun-Speckled Terrace in Pikmin 4. If this happens, you’ll notice that refreezing the pond just results in the onion getting stuck in the ice. At this point, you don’t have access to Blue Pikmin, and none of the other types can pick up things in the water.

There are two things you can do if you get the Blue Onion stuck:

  • Use Oatchi to ram it to shore.
  • Wait until you reach Serene Shores and acquire a Blue Onion there.

If you’ve made it this far, you’re familiar with Oatchi’s charge ability. However, if you reach the Blue Onion early on, you likely don’t realize that Oatchi can swim. The Doggie Paddle ability allows him to tread water, and it’s automatically unlocked by the sixth day. However, some players have claimed you can accelerate this by repeatedly trying to make Oatchi swim until a cutscene plays. Allegedly, after this occurs, Doggie Paddle will be unlocked the next morning.

Once you have Oatchi’s Doggie Paddle, you can use his charge in the water. It’s a slow process, but you can charge the Blue Onion to move it toward the shore. Once it’s firmly on dry land, you can have any type of Pikmin carry it to your base.

Of course, you can also avoid this situation and wait until Serene Shores opens. You don’t absolutely need Blue Pikmin until you get there anyway, and if you don’t already have the Blue Onion by then, you’ll get it as part of the story.
