Will Dark and Darker Be Free-to-Play On PC?

Dark and Darker, the hardcore PvPv game, is available for download as a free demo on PC via Steam. However, despite years of development, players are unsure whether the game will remain free-to-play for its 1.0 release.

Will Dark and Darker remain F2P for its 1.0 release?

IRONMACE plans to release Dark and Darker in Q3 2023, but there has been no news on a price change, meaning it could well remain a free-to-play game. This release date could be a long time coming as recent playtests are still being dubbed ‘alphas,’ so we can expect more news closer to the date.

Many Early Access titles on Steam raise their prices for the full release, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see Dark and Darker switch to a paid download for either its beta or 1.0 release. The recent playtests have only run for a few days at a time, so the developers are likely keeping it free to iron out as many bugs as possible.

Dark and Darker’s hardcore gameplay has attracted a lot of interest, making it the most wish-listed game in Steam’s Next Fest event. The developers frequently push hotfixes, so while the current alpha version may be buggy, players can expect quick fixes to major bugs.
